From October 21 to 22, 2022, the 1st International Conference on Energy Storage and Saving (ICENSS 2022) was successfully convened in Xi'an. Hosted by Xi'an Jiaotong University, this conference shares the same name as the university's academic journal "Energy Storage and Saving" (English version) and received strong support from the International Center for Heat and Mass Transfer, Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, Key Laboratory of Thermal Energy and Power Technology, and Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology.

Academician Tao Wenquan from Xi'an Jiaotong University served as the Honorary Chairman of the conference, Academician He Yaling from Xi'an Jiaotong University as the Chairman of the International Scientific and Advisory Committee, and Academician Ding Yulong from the University of Birmingham (UK), Professor Ho Seok Park from Sungkyunkwan University (South Korea), and Professor Wang Qiuwang from Xi'an Jiaotong University as the Conference Chairs.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Academician Tao Wenquan. Professor Bie Chaohong, Vice President of Xi'an Jiaotong University, delivered a speech, expressing gratitude to the organizing committee and highlighting that the university's solid disciplinary foundation, the high-level scientific research platform at China West Innovation Port, and the University Alliance of the Silk Road have laid a sound foundation and provided an international platform for the development of the conference and the journal. Academician Ding Yulong noted in his speech that the conference offered an excellent communication platform for scholars in the field of energy storage and saving and wished the conference a complete success. Professor Wang Qiuwang, Editor-in-Chief of "Energy Storage and Saving" (English version), gave a detailed introduction to the organizing committee members, conference scale and format, plenary report arrangements, and journal overview. Professor Huang Zhongde, Executive Vice Dean of the Research Institute of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Professor Ding Shujiang, Associate Editor-in-Chief of the journal, and Zhang Cong, Deputy Director of the Journal Center of Xi'an Jiaotong University, attended the opening ceremony.

ICENSS 2022 adopted a hybrid format of online and offline participation, featuring over 100 reports, including 7 plenary invited reports and 12 parallel session invited reports. More than 100 scholars from over 50 universities and research institutions across 12 countries such as China, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, South Korea, and India registered for the conference, while over 7,900 people watched the live broadcast online. A on-demand platform was also available for participants to access reports at their convenience. Distinguished scholars including Academician Ouyang Minggao from Tsinghua University, Professor Soteris Kalogirou from Cyprus University of Technology, Academician Ding Yulong from the University of Birmingham, Academician Zhao Tianshou from Southern University of Science and Technology, Professor Majeed Mohamad from the University of Calgary, Professor Jiri Klemes from Brno University of Technology, and Academician Tao Wenquan from Xi'an Jiaotong University delivered plenary invited reports. Additionally, more than 90 oral presentations were given in parallel sessions, covering the latest progress and achievements in phase change energy storage, thermochemical energy storage, electrochemical energy storage, heat transfer performance, thermal energy storage, thermal management, energy-saving systems, solar energy, and renewable energy. During the conference, the 3rd Editorial Board Meeting of "Energy Storage and Saving" (English version) was held simultaneously, where editorial board members and young editorial board members discussed issues such as the 2nd International Conference on Energy Storage and Saving and the journal's development strategy.

Professor Wang Qiuwang presided over the closing ceremony, summarized the conference, and invited participants to actively attend the 2nd session. Meanwhile, the conference selected 3 outstanding papers and 12 hot topic reports, with certificates awarded by Academician Tao Wenquan from Xi'an Jiaotong University and Professor Jiri Klemes from Brno University of Technology.
Aligning with China's energy policy development strategy, the conference strengthened academic exchanges among scholars in the field of energy storage and saving through diverse themes and formats, promoting interdisciplinary integration. As the first international conference initiated by the journal "Energy Storage and Saving" (English version), it also enhanced scholars' understanding of the journal and played a significant role in boosting its international influence.
