Following the success of IWHT2011 and IWHT2013,the 3rd International Workshop on Heat TransferAdvances for Energy Conservation and Pollution Control(IWHT2015) was successfully held at the National TaipeiUniversity of Technology in Taipei, Taiwan, October 16–19, 2015. More than 270 researchers from 15 countriesand areas, including Korea, Germany, Suriname, Canada, Russia,China, Hong Kong, Korea, Australia, Japan, Taiwan,Macau, Malaysia, United States, Iran, and Indonesia, participated in IWHT2015.

The workshop was organizedby four National Universities of Taiwan (National TaipeiUniversity of Technology, National Tsing Hua University,National Cheng Kung University, National Chiao TungUniversity) and was approved by the Ministry ofScience and Technology (MOST), Taiwan. The majorsponsors included MOST, Tai-Power Company (TPC),ADTech, Kow Chiu Radio Manufacturing Company,HsinDeh, Society of Power Mechanical Engineering,Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineers, Institute ofNuclear Energy Research (INER), Nuclear and NewEnergy Education and Research Foundation, ChungHwa Nuclear Society (CHNS), Taipei Tech MechanicalEngineering, and EverStar Taiwan.

Effective energy usage incorporating with heat andmass transfer processes may appreciably prevent energyshortage problem and reduce relevant environmentpollution. Thorough some during understandings of thedetails and mechanisms better energy conversion andtransport is imperative for efficient energy managementand pollution control technologies. For the past fewdecades, there had been substantial achievement throughresearch and development of the power and energy engineer-ing. IWHT2015 shared the same goal as IWHT2011 andIWHT2013, and the objective of this international confer-ence was to provide an international forum to exchangethe latest technical information for the dissemination ofthe high-quality research results, and to bring togetherexperts in presenting the newest developments in thissubject as far as heat and mass transfer is concerned. Thepapers presented at IWHT2015 are particularly fruitfuland valuable to a wide range of researchers, scientists, engineers, and practitioners who are working in thegeneral heat/mass transfer field.

The presentations in IWHT2015 included 6 plenarylectures by Prof. Vijay K. Dhir, UCLA, Los Angeles,USA; Prof. Tianshou Zhao Hong Kong University of Sci-ence and Technology, Hong Kong; Prof. Yasutaka,Kyushu University, Japan; Prof. Yong X. Tao, Univer-sity of North Texas, Dallas, USA; Prof. Qiu-Wang Wang,Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China; Prof. Chiu-Ming Huang,National Taiwan University, Taiwan, 25 keynote lectures,131 regular research papers, covering wide subjects inassociation with clean energy and storage techniques, heatexchangers and advanced energy systems, energy effi-ciency in energy conversion, transport in porous media, and heat and mass transfer equipment, multiphase flowradiative heat transfer, computational fluid dynamics, andnumerical heat and mass transfer. Proceedings of theIWHT2015 were published as a USB drive and distributedto the workshop attendees. The proceedings reflect thelatest research achievements of scientific studies in theenergy conservation and pollution control area in asso-ciation with heat and mass transfer, complying with thestrategic development of world-wide energy policy andmeets the important demand of economic developmentfor energy.

About 30% of the workshop papers have been selectedfor special issue publications of Applied Thermal Engi-neering, Heat Transfer Engineering, and Heat TransferResearch, subject to further paper refinement and review.
